NAIDOC Activity Day

A day for GPS to celebrate and recognise our First Nations staff, students and wider community. Students engaged in a range of activities to deepen their understanding of the enduring culture and histories of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Stage 1 - School House Museum Excursion

Students in Years 1 and 2 visited the School House Museum for a day in the life of school children in the 1880s and 1900s. They participated in historical school lessons, following some of the strict routines of early schooling. Their recess and lunch breaks involved playing with quoits and hoops, and the learning spaces illustrated the changes in resources available to students and teachers through the years.

Kindergarten Visit the Farm

Our farm adventure kicked off with a fun, informative tour where we learned all about farm animals, how they help each other and the farm, and what the animals need to stay healthy. We discovered what’s produced on a farm and even had a turn at cow milking (it’s trickier than it looks!)

We also visited the farmyard nursery where we cuddled baby animals. Next, we went on a bumpy tractor ride around the farm and saw the manmade dams for the animals. After lunch, amazed by the working dog show. The grand finale was the sheep shearing talk and demonstration. What a brilliant day full of learning, laughter, and farmyard fun!

Stage 2 - Field of Mars Excursion

Students participated in a variety of hands-on activities that deepened their understanding of how living things depend on energy and materials to survive. They used microscopes to closely examine tiny insects and plants, and expressed their creativity through watercolour paintings of living things. Students also used scientific journals to collect evidence and data on different species, fostering their skills in observation and recording their findings.

Highlights of the day included spotting signs of wallabies, bandicoots, trapdoor spiders, black cockatoos and possums.

Stage 3 Camp - Canberra

Our Stage 3 students enjoyed beautiful weather and a jam packed itinerary across their three day visit to Canberra. The highlights were not limited to Questacon, debating at Parliament House, visiting the Australian War Memorial, the Arboretum and Botanic Gardens.
